M.Sc. in Physics

About the Program

Master of Science (Physics) is a post graduate course in Physics of international standard and aims to create zeal for science research in the students. The program will strive towards building proactive partnerships with industry and other research organizations to offer educational and research output to the society. This program is committed to demonstrating science as a human endeavour and thus a way to understand the natural world. The program also aims to nurture student’s overall development through high-quality educational environment in an inclusive and collaborative manner where students, faculty, and staff prosper intellectually, create and disseminate scholarly knowledge, engage community and take up the challenges to solve problems for the benefit of the society.

At the end of the course, the Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Apply principles/laws of Physics to solve the physical problems.
  • Identify/formulate the complex physics problems.
  • Design the solutions for Physics problems.
  • Conduct experiments in Physics and interpret the data.
  • Use the modern tools to learn the Physics.
  • Take the responsibility for Physics practice.
  • Demonstrate the physics knowledge for sustainable development.
  • Use ethical principles and norms of Physics practice.
  • Function effectively as individual as well as in a team.
  • Communicate the Physics effectively.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge in physics to manage the Physics projects effectively.
  • Lifelong learning of physics.

Who is eligible to apply?

B.Sc./B.Sc. (Hons) with Physics/Instrumentation/Electronics/Applied Physics as a major subject or equivalent degree in offered specialization with minimum 50% marks aggregate of all semester/years or CPI 5.5 on 10 point scale or equivalent score from a recognized University/Institute.


Pre-requisite:

Students are expected to have good background in mathematics, physics and chemistry. Any programming experience would be an added advantage.


About Curriculum

The curriculum for the course has been designed by referring the curriculum of reputed Indian & Foreign Universities. It is further fine-tuned as per the industry requirement.

The curriculum has been structured in three phases:

  3. Research Project: The objective of this course is to affiliate the students from day one towards research in physics with not only theory but research on practical problems and helpful towards final year thesis.

Dr Rajib Bandyopadhyay has been working in the School of Technology since October 2010. He received his PhD degree from National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune in 1997. Later he did postdoctoral research in Japan (NEDO and JSPS Fellow) for four years followed by Germany (Alexander von Humboldt Fellow). Before joining PDPU, Dr Bandyopadhyay worked in senior management position in the R&D sectors of various multinational companies including Sud-Chemie, Owens Corning and Sika. He has more than 35 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and book chapters. He also regularly reviews journal papers from Elsevier and other publishers. He is a life member of International Zeolite Association.
